How Chiropractic Helps
Chiropractors use a holistic and integrative approach when assessing a patient’s health needs. This means not just focusing on the symptoms of a condition, but also your overall physical health, your lifestyle and emotional wellbeing. The treatments are mainly focused on optimising spinal and general biomechanical function through the specialised Chiropractic Adjustment (manipulation). In adjunct to this treatment most Chiropractors also utilise complementary treatment techniques such as massage, medical acupuncture, stretching and taping technique.
We use a number of highly-effective adjusting approaches to help improve spinal biomechanics and reduce nervous system interference. The approach we use is based on our clinical judgment and years of experience.
The primary adjusting techniques we use include:
Chiropractic Adjustments
Manipulation is the chiropractor’s most important technique. With his or her hands, the chiropractor moves a joint a little further than the patient would be able to do on their own. The Chiropractic Adjustment is very precise, and its purpose is to restore normal joint range of motion, reduce nerve irritation and improve overall function of the joint and surrounding muscles. Very often the patient experiences an immediate relieving sensation from the adjustment, although minor and temporary discomfort may be felt if the surrounding muscles are in spasm.
During the Chiropractic Adjustment, an audible release of gas (‘pop’) may be felt. This sound is not caused by bones grating against each other or by something being torn. The energy delivered during the thrust may produce a slight “popping” sound from the shifting of gas and fluids in the joint. This sound may be interesting but is not a guide as to the value or effectiveness of the adjustment.
Thompson Drop Technique
Thompson Terminal Point technique is a system of analysis and a special table that reduces the amount of energy needed to adjust your spine. Click here to read more about the Thompson Technique.
AK Applied Kinesiology
Testing the strength of specific muscles of your body helps us find structural, chemical and mental problems and monitor your results. Click here to read more about AK.
Activator Methods®
This is a system of spinal evaluation combined with a handheld adjusting instrument that delivers a consistent, low-force thrust. Click hear to read more about the Activator Method
Kinesio Taping
The Kinesio Taping Method is a rehabilitative taping technique that is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion.
Acupuncture (Dry Needling)
The perfect adjunct to your chiropractic care, we use acupuncture for meridian balance, symptom relief and many organic health complaints. Click here to read more about Acupuncture.
Ultrasound
This high-tech deep tissue “micro-massage” helps reduce swelling, increase blood flow, decrease pain, reduce joint stiffness and stimulate cell-repair. Click here to read more about Ultrasound Treatment
Trigger Point Therapy
By applying direct pressure or stretching of the affected muscle, we can reduce muscle spasms and flush out pooled blood and accumulated toxins. Click here to read more about Trigger Point Therapy
Myovison Thermographic Scans
This technology helps us assess your nervous system by measuring tiny amounts of heat and electrical differences along your spine. Click here to read more about Myovisions Scans
