The Thompson Technique
Developed by Dr. J. Clay Thompson, the Thompson Technique is a highly effective system of analysis and adjustment for the entire spine. With a focus on precision and patient comfort, this technique has garnered appreciation from our The Wellness Centre (Castle Quay) patients.
A System of Analysis
Early chiropractors observed that subluxations often resulted in a shortened or contracted leg. By comparing leg lengths while the patient turned their head from side to side, practitioners could identify the location of the subluxation in the upper, middle, or lower back.
Terminal Point Table
When you visit our practice for adjustments using the Thompson Technique, you’ll notice our unique segmental ‘drop’ table. This table is equipped with individual cushions or ‘drop pieces’ along its surface, supporting each segment of your spine. During the adjustment, these drop pieces gently give way, reducing the energy required to move a specific spinal segment.
A Precise Approach
Dr. Thompson’s revolutionary method was granted a patent in 1955 due to its exceptional precision and outstanding patient results. Since then, it has been widely used around the globe, including at our practice in Jersey.
Our Approach
At The Wellness Centre (Castle Quay), we prioritise your specific condition and goals. Our chiropractors will thoroughly examine you and discuss your needs before creating a personalised care plan. If the Thompson Technique suits you, it will be integrated into your customised plan.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is the Thompson Technique different from other chiropractic methods?
The Thompson Technique stands out by incorporating a leg check analysis and adjusting procedures.
Is this method appropriate for children and seniors?
Absolutely. The Thompson Technique features a ‘weighing’ system on the table, where the drop pieces are set slightly heavier than the patient’s body weight. This allows for a gentle yet effective adjustment for patients of all ages.
Do you combine Thompson Drop Table adjustments with other chiropractic techniques?
Just like other chiropractic methods, the Thompson Technique can be seamlessly combined with other techniques offered by our chiropractors.
